More information as provided by our partner:
The Harold Alfond Foundation has been a prominent partner of Rollins College for many years, contributing more than $14 million to support initiatives that advance the College’s mission.
The Foundation’s transformational $12.5 million gift toward the construction of The Alfond Inn at Rollins, which officially opened in 2013, was uniquely structured to establish an endowed fund, the Alfond Scholars Program.
Distinguished by its philanthropic mission, as well as its boutique hotel experience, The Alfond Inn directs all of its net operating income to the Alfond Scholars Program, the College’s premier scholarship fund. Full merit scholarships are awarded to Alfond Scholars, and the presence of a scholarship program of this caliber enhances the College’s ability to attract and retain the most academically talented students. The Inn itself has achieved the esteemed AAA Four Diamond Rating, consistently ranks as a top hotel in Florida, and houses the renowned Alfond Collection of Contemporary Art.
Most recently, the Foundation awarded Rollins a $40 million grant to support the multi-year expansion of The Alfond Inn and the Crummer School of Business, both key components of the College’s “Innovation Triangle” project in connection with the Cornell Fine Arts Museum.
In 1996, the Foundation made the lead gift for the construction of the Harold & Ted Alfond Sports Center. The facility more than doubled the square footage of the previous building and not only serves as the home of Rollins College Athletics, but also provides the backdrop for commencement exercises, concerts, and lectures, serving as a focal point for the College community.
Harold Alfond received his honorary degree from Rollins in 1997, and his name and that of his family has a wonderful presence throughout the College. In addition to the Harold & Ted Alfond Sports Center and The Alfond Inn at Rollins, the Alfonds have supported the Alfond Swimming Pool, the Alfond Boathouse, and the Alfond Stadium at Harper-Shepard Field.
