Harold Alfond Foundation

The Harold Alfond Foundation honors and promotes the values of its founder through transformative investments for the benefit of Maine in education, health care, and youth and community development.

The Harold Alfond Foundation favors charitable causes in three broad program areas:

College classroom
Education

Educating students for the benefit of Maine.

Mr. Alfond believed that every person in the 21st century should aspire and have access to higher education. Our education grants promote access to and improve the quality of higher education for the benefit of Maine people. These grants are often designed to build, preserve, and enhance the skills of Maine’s workforce now and into the future.

Health care

Our health care investments are intended to pay important long-term dividends for the state of Maine.

We make grants to improve health care delivery and quality, promote centers of excellence, and advance education for Maine’s future health care professionals.

Youth & Community Development

Supporting those who inspire and empower our communities.

Harold Alfond was inspired by many philanthropic causes, especially those which invest in our youth and communities. He and his wife Bibby had a deep love for their community, and for the institutions so important to a community’s health and well-being. We support youth development initiatives that inspire and empower youth through education, job creation, leadership development, and sports and recreation.
